Small camera tattoo on a wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A raised hand shows a small camera icon tattooed on the inner forearm close to the wrist. The camera is drawn in solid black ink with simple, clean outlines and minimal detail. The blurred shelves behind the hand give a soft, neutral backdrop that keeps the focus on the tattoo.

The lift at Ashgrove House had been broken since March, so the fourteenth floor had to make its own entertainment. Gran's old Kodak lived in the drawer under the microwave, the one with a winding wheel and a sticker of a sailing boat peeling off the back. Mrs Okafor found it looking for batteries, and by the Tuesday it was being passed round the landing like a relay baton.

Nobody had a proper camera any more. We had phones with cracked lenses and a hundred pictures of the same crisp packet. So the rules were simple. Each of us got six frames, and each frame had to show something the council would paint over by summer: the stairwell tiles, the bin chute, the spider plant somebody had wedged into the fire door. Mr Adeyemi spent all six on the foyer mosaic as though it were a cathedral window.
The prints came back from the chemist on the high street in a brown envelope that smelled of vinegar. Most were blurred or had a thumb across the corner. But the last frame, the one nobody had claimed, showed the view from the landing window at dusk: the motorway, the gasometer, the flats across the way lit up like a switchboard. In the bottom corner a camera strap swung loose, the only part of the photographer who had decided to stay in the picture.
I pinned it up beside the dead lift doors, where everyone would see it on the way down the stairs. Nobody asked whose strap it was. We just stood a while in front of it, the way you do with a view you have been told you are not allowed to keep.
