Snarling cat tattoo across the hand
Realism · Hand · Mixed · Photo
A realistic cat with bared fangs and yellow eyes fills the back of the hand, with the head sitting over the knuckles. The fur is rendered in fine black and grey shading with strong contrast, and whiskers radiate across the skin. The shaded forearm detail above the wrist fades into the dark background.

Mrs Pargeter had been the bride's gran's cat for eleven years, and she had strong views on the vicar's cassock. When Ruth asked me to fetch the rings, I found them in a shoebox on the windowsill, but I also found the cat on the other side of the vestry door, lips pulled back, fangs out, making a noise like a kettle about to boil. I said please. I said her name in the voice my nan used on the bingo caller. She didn't blink. Then I remembered the ribbon on the ring cushion, which smelt of lavender from Ruth's gran's drawer, and held it out, and the snarl softened into a long, considering look.
She took the ribbon. She did not take her eyes off me. I walked backwards up the aisle with the rings in my fist and the cat trotting behind like a bouncer, and at the altar she sat down on the groom's left shoe as if she had been invited.
When Ruth finally said I do, the cat yawned, showing every one of those fangs, and I swear she was the only guest who looked bored.
