Star Wars starships and emblems on thighs
Thigh · Mixed · Photo
The tattoos cover both thighs of a person wearing denim shorts, showing a Millennium Falcon on the left leg and a Death Star with a small starship on the right. Both designs use black outline and fine detail with grey shading and light debris effects. The Rebel Alliance emblem on the left knee is filled in red, while the Imperial emblem on the right knee is black and grey, and the composition is framed by the shorts and knees.

You climb the spiral stairs at dusk with the paraffin smell still in your coat, and the fog has already swallowed the Gannet Rocks. Mr Pascoe's log lies open on the lamp room desk where he left it, his neat hand ending mid-line on the night the fog came in last winter.

By two in the morning the foghorn has stopped being a sound and become a weight in your chest. You hear an engine before you see anything, a deep grinding note that belongs to no trawler on this coast. Then a shape slides out of the murk below the cliff, long and dark and wrong, with a row of portholes lit like a cold city, and it turns its bow toward the reef as though it knows the channel better than you do.
You swing the lamp to the red shutter, the one Pascoe kept for warnings, and flash three short and one long. A light answers from the hull, a hard white beam that sweeps the water in a slow arc and stops square on your window, holding you there until your eyes sting. Then, without a horn, it backs off into the fog and is gone, leaving only the wash slapping the rocks.
At dawn the sea is flat and bruised with oil. On the lowest ledge, where the spray never quite reaches, you find a plate of grey metal no wider than your palm, scored with a neat ring of rivets and a small red mark like a bird's wing. You tuck it into your coat and write the time in the log, under Pascoe's last line, in your own careful hand.
