TARDIS and Gallifreyan circles on upper arm
Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A blue TARDIS police box sits at the centre of the design, with a quote printed in black lettering across its side panel. Black outlined Gallifreyan circle glyphs surround it on the upper arm, with some shading on the box in blue and purple. The composition is vertical, with the box filling most of the lower half of the arm and the circles cropped at the top edge of the frame.

Old Hettie Crane kept the lamps on Tollgate Bridge in the river town of Marrow, and she said the blue box came every night the fog rose off the water. It stood where the toll hut had burned down years before, humming like a kettle left on the hob, and nobody went near it but her.

One November a lad named Fenwick Dorr, who had lost a wager at the Lamb, dared himself to try the door. Inside it was far larger than the outside, with a floor of brass rings and walls covered in curling marks like the ones cut into the bridge stones. The marks were circles hooked with little lines, and when he traced one with a finger it turned slowly, the way a cartwheel turns in mud.
A voice with no owner asked him what he wanted. He said he wanted his mother back from the cholera ward across the water. The voice said it could not raise the dead, but it could walk him through the fog to her bedside if he carried the lantern and did not look at the faces in the river. Beside the door was a plate painted with black letters, one may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel, and the voice said that was the old rule of the house: a little harm is the price of a thing worth keeping.
He walked the fog with his eyes on the cobbles and found his mother sitting up in her bed, thin as a rake but breathing. When he came back to the bridge the box was gone. In its place lay a single brass ring with a hook in it. Hettie Crane took it from his palm, turned it once, and said the box comes back when someone needs to be a little less frightened of what they have to do.
