Pale, faded script lettering reading Trust across a wrist, shown as a whitened lettering tattoo in a Lettering style.

Trust script on a wrist

Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A close photograph of a wrist with the word Trust written in flowing script across the skin. The letters appear pale and raised rather than dark, so the ink looks faded, lightened or possibly scar-like. The lettering is centred on the frame against a plain skin background, with tiles visible at the edges.

Dear Marguerite,

I found the old Brownie badge tin in the loft on Tuesday, the one with the tin lid that never closed properly, and at the bottom was the folded note you wrote me in the summer of 1987 when your dad took the caravan to Filey and you stayed behind with my gran. You promised you would meet me at the bus shelter by the chippy every Saturday until we were thirty. I have been to the bus shelter three times since Tuesday. The chippy is a vape shop now, and the shelter has a sign about cycling lanes.

I am writing because the reunion committee has finally got hold of the Wren Street hall for the twelfth, and Gail says you have said yes, which is the first I have heard of it from anyone who has not been drinking. So I am telling you now, before you can get out of it, that I am bringing the tin. Inside it there is still the brass compass you swapped me for my Bay City Rollers pin, and I have decided it is time one of us handed the other back something she should have kept.

Don't bring a plus one. Bring the hand you used to hold mine on the walk back from the swimming baths, the one you always said was steadier than mine. I have been told my writing has got worse, and I would like to see whether yours has kept its loops.

Yours, still waiting at the shelter, Janet
