Two cartoon characters on a wrist
Other · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows two cartoon characters side by side: a figure with spiky orange hair on the left and a rounded, orange-striped head with a black nose and white fur on the right. The linework is bold and black, with flat fills of orange and small areas of black and white. The photograph is taken straight on, with the wrist filling most of the frame against a soft, out-of-focus background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Tobias had already been fired from the cannon twice that morning, once off the garden wall and once off the bins, and Marmaduke was still insisting the third launch would reach the moon. "Gravity is a rumour," he said, tugging a cardboard box over his striped shoulders. "Mostly spread by people who have never tried harder."

Tobias pointed out that cardboard was not a rocket and that his mum had asked for the recycling by four. Marmaduke said the recycling would understand, because it had been to the moon before in a manner of speaking and had come back as a fridge.
They built the thing from the box, a colander, two wooden spoons and the good tinfoil. The hill behind the bus shelter made a serviceable launch pad. Tobias climbed in first, hair already standing up in every direction from the wind, while Marmaduke settled on his lap with a stopwatch that had stopped working in 2019.
The box split on the first bounce and folded them both into the duck pond, where a duck regarded them with the deep disappointment of an expert. Tobias lay on his back, dripping, the tinfoil stuck to one elbow. A cloud drifted over like a slow, lazy tiger. "Did we reach it?" Marmaduke asked, sprawled across his chest. Tobias considered the sky for a long moment. "Close enough," he said, and Marmaduke sneezed.
