Two cat head tattoos on forearm and wrist
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two small animal head tattoos sit on the inner forearm and wrist of two pale arms, which are held together with the hands clasped. The left tattoo shows a shaded grey cat head with soft fur texture and defined eyes, while the right shows a lighter, more sketchy head with a visible ear. Both use soft grey shading on a plain, neutral light background.

Mind the step, you lot, the cellar stairs have been waiting for a fool since the war. Now, my grandmother swore this was true, and she never told a lie she could not make pretty. The grey one was called Mossop and he would sit on the bread van in the blue hour before dawn, judging every loaf that went past. The tea-coloured one had no name because she never came when she was called, and so the children of the street called her Wait.

One February the lamplighter's boy went missing in the fog, and the whole street went out with torches, banging pans, calling his name into the white. Mossop walked straight down the middle of the road as if the fog were a carpet laid for him. Wait went the other way, over the rooftops, where nobody thinks to look. She found the boy wedged under a coal chute on Cinder Row, his ankle caught in a grate, too frightened to shout any more.
And here is the part they always get wrong. Mossop got the credit, for he was the one who came back to the lamplighter's door with the whole street trailing after him. Wait just went home and slept in the warm ash by the baker's oven. But the boy, when he grew up and kept a shop on that same lane, had two small cats painted in the window, one grey and one pale, and he said the pale one was the only one who had ever been right about anything. Off you go now. Mind the step.
