Bachelorette party quote on wrist

Lettering · Other · Colour · Photo

A close photograph of a text tattoo on the inside of a wrist, reading I belong with Erin's Bachelorette Party. If I'm Lost, Please Buy Me A Drink. The lettering is dark blue in a simple, uniform typeface, with a small green four-leaf clover beside the last line. The plain background of green foliage is out of focus, which keeps attention on the words and the wrist.

Dear Bernie,

You'll not believe the crossing I've had. Twelve hen parties on the Holyhead boat, and the one in the lounge by the blue carpet had matching sashes reading KISS THE BRIDE. By the time we were out past the breakwater the bride had already tried to sell her handbag to a Welsh sailor for a tenner and a packet of crisps.

The one I want to tell you about is Shona, the bridesmaid with the clover. She'd had the words done that morning at a parlour in Bootle, in blue ink like a school biro, so she could read them every time she reached for the bar. I belong with Erin's Bachelorette Party. If I'm lost, please buy me a drink. She showed me, holding her arm out like a crime exhibit, and I told her a tattoo was a long commitment for a joke.

At half eleven the bride went missing. Proper missing, not the usual wandering off to the loo. We searched the lounge, the car deck and the gift shop, and found her eventually asleep in a lifeboat-drill locker with her veil over her face. Shona stood over her with the rest of the girls and said, "Well, she's lost, and I'm not buying her a drink, I'm buying her a bloody coffee." Then she turned to me and held her wrist under my nose so I'd read it again.

Nobody bought the drink in the end. I made a pot of tea with two sugars, and we wheeled the bride back to the bar on a trolley like a sack of potatoes. Tell Dad I'm fine, and tell him the boat's sound.

Love, Maureen
