Black cat stretching on a forearm

Blackwork · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A solid black cartoon cat is shown with its limbs stretched outwards and a long, thin tail that ends in a tight curl. The figure has small eyes, a pointed face and whisker lines, and is drawn with bold silhouette fills alongside fine outline strokes. Only black ink is used, set against a plain, lightly lit skin background with a metallic surface at the edge of the frame.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

In the kingdom of Morrowmere, the royal cat Pim had never once been asked to sit still. The court tailor measured her for a velvet cushion every spring, and every spring she stretched across it until her four legs reached the corners and her tail hung off the edge like a dropped ribbon. Queen Ysolde called it a sign of good fortune. The chamberlain called it a nuisance.

Then the great bell in the east tower cracked, and the bellringer, a grumbling man named Oswin Feld, swore he could not reach the rope with his stool bent. Pim watched him from the stable roof. She considered the problem with her eyes half shut, lifted both forelegs towards the clouds as if yawning at them, and then ran herself down the tower wall like spilled ink finding its way downhill.

Oswin gaped. The rope still hung fourteen feet above him, but Pim's paw hooked the iron ring and gave one neat tug. The bell swung true, rang out over the marsh, and every heron in Morrowmere lifted at once. The chamberlain sent word that the cat would have cream for a month. Pim declined it and went to sleep in the sun.

That evening Oswin left a saucer of milk on the tower step. By morning it was licked clean, and a single black hair lay curled on the stone like a question mark. Nobody in Morrowmere asked Pim to sit on the cushion again. They simply left the bell rope a little slack, so she could stretch down to it on her own.
