Cartoon cat in striped top on ankle
Ankle · Mixed · Photo
A grey cartoon cat stands upright in a teal and grey striped top, with whiskers and a simple black outline. The linework is clean and bold, with flat colour fills and minimal shading. The tattoo sits on the lower leg above a red patent shoe with a polka dot button, against a white wall and wooden deck.

He stepped down from the kerb with the careful dignity of a cat who has never once been caught running. Across the road the fishmonger's shutter rattled. A van idled outside the Co-op with its headlights resting on the pavement, and somewhere a radio was playing a trumpet tune that made his whiskers twitch. Tonight he was meant to deliver the envelope to Mrs Okonedo above the chemist's. The envelope was damp, and so was he.
On the third stair of the flats he sat down and reconsidered the arrangement. A man in a long coat had told him, over a pint in the corner pub, that a cat in a striped top could walk through any door in the city. That was a lie, Pim knew, because the door at number nine had shut in his face twice. Still he rang the bell with one paw, the way he had been taught.
Mrs Okonedo opened it in a dressing gown printed with teapots. She looked at the envelope, then at the stripes, then at him. "Your aunt's jersey?" she said. "Still fits?"
"Almost," said Pim, and for once the stripes did not feel like a costume. She took the envelope and gave him back a biscuit wrapped in foil, and he walked home under the dead lamp counting his stripes all the way.
