Duke lettering and Hello Kitty wrist tattoos
Lettering · Forearm · Colour · Photo
Two wrist tattoos are shown with the palms facing up. The left reads Duke in blue blackletter-style lettering, and the right shows an outlined Hello Kitty character with a blue bow holding an orange basketball. The linework is clean and solid with flat blue fill and a single orange accent, and blue glitter nails frame the composition.

Sit down by the range, you lot, and mind the kettle, because this is the tale of Mrs Pell's cat and the orange that would not stay still. Pell kept the galley on the Marigold Tern for eleven years, and in all that time she never let a cat aboard that wasn't a proper mouser with a brass collar and no nonsense. Then came Biscuit, a white scrap with a blue ribbon tied in a bow at one ear, bought off a dock boy in Falmouth for a shilling and a promise that she'd never be left in a barrel.

The ribbon caused no end of bother. Every deckhand wanted to know why a ship's cat wore a bow, and Pell said it was a gift from her sister, and that was the end of it. What Biscuit did with her days was chase a single orange. It rolled out of the fruit bowl every time the Tern leaned into a swell, and the cat would pounce on it under the chopping board, skid it across the scrubbed planks and bat it back to the bowl as if she were keeping score. Nobody in the galley ever counted the goals, but we all knew who was winning.
Then came the gale off the Dogger, the one that tore the jib clean away. Pell was below with the lamp swinging, and when the hatch finally blew open at dawn she found the galley floor awash and the orange gone. She searched every locker and the flour bin, and she was just about to swear at the cat when she saw Biscuit crouched beside the cupboard, washed to the whiskers, guarding something small and round in the corner.
After that, every morning, there was one orange sitting in the bowl, a little dented, with a blue ribbon lying beside it like a receipt. Pell never said a word about it, and neither did we. Now, pass me that cup, the wind's still up, and the kettle's near to boiling.
