Family script in a heart on a wrist
Fine line · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A single continuous black line forms an outlined heart, with the word family written in cursive script across its centre. The linework is thin and even, with the heart's lower point extending into a looping, infinity-style tail. The ink is solid black on pale skin, shot close up against a dark background.

Nell read it upside down and felt the cold of the flagstones come up through her boots.
The thaw came on the fourth morning, all at once, with dripping eaves and a brown river running across the yard. The traveller paid his reckoning in coins still warm from his pocket and left before the coach horses were harnessed. Nell went to wipe the window and found the heart had survived the night on the inside of the glass, faint as breath, its tail still looping back to the place it began.
