Green cartoon dinosaur on upper chest
Chest · Colour · Photo
A small cartoon brontosaurus-style dinosaur is tattooed on the upper chest near the collarbone. It has a bold black outline and a flat green fill with minimal shading. The plain background of a bright indoor room and the close crop keep the focus on the tattoo.

Snow had shut the pass for nine days when the innkeeper's daughter, Ada Pell, heard something knocking at the back door like a loose shutter. It seemed mainly embarrassed about the snow.

Her father wanted to bolt the door. Her mother, who had eaten three winters of short rations and remembered every one, put a pan of barley on the hearth instead. The creature ate the barley slowly, one grain at a time, and when it had finished it lay down across the threshold with its long tail tucked over its feet and went to sleep as though it had been expected all along.
Through the week the travellers came in off the road: a wool merchant, two monks who had lost their mule, a girl who sang badly and loudly. Each of them stepped over the sleeping beast without a word, and each of them left the inn warmer than they arrived. Nobody could say how. The merchant swore the snow stopped falling on his side of the door. The monks prayed and then argued about whether that counted.
On the ninth morning the sky went clear and blue, and the creature stood up, stretched its neck up past the lintel, and walked off down the valley road towards the thaw. Ada followed it as far as the first bend. It turned, looked back at her with an expression that was almost fond, and was gone into the glare. The snow stayed until noon. Ada kept the pan, and to this day her family leaves a little barley on the step when the frost comes in.
