Hello Kitty with pink awareness ribbon
Shoulder · Mixed · Photo
A black outlined Hello Kitty face sits on the skin, with whiskers, two small dot eyes and a yellow nose. A pink ribbon loops over the top of the head and trails to the right. The linework is bold and solid, with light pink and yellow fill, and the design is centred in the frame against a plain skin background.

Mrs Pell had spent forty years running the lost-property box at the Ashcombe church fête, and in all that time nobody had ever claimed the cat. It sat on the top shelf between a bicycle pump and a tin of marbles, a white cat with a yellow nose and no mouth at all, which the village agreed was either very sensible or very rude. Someone had tied a pink ribbon round its head, and the ribbon had faded to the colour of boiled ham.

Wilf Garrod, who ran the tombola and believed every object had a price, decided it was his. He carried it to the bottling tent under one arm and set it on the trestle beside the rhubarb jam, where it stared at the bunting with its two small dot eyes. Nobody bought it. But by four o'clock the cat had become a fixture: the vicar's wife tucked a sprig of sweet pea behind the ribbon, and the Pell twins drew it a moustache in biro that washed off the moment the rain came.
The rain came at five. Wilf went to fetch the awning ropes and came back to find the cat gone and a note in its place, pinned under a jar of damson gin: 'Borrowed for the walk. Back by Michaelmas. Mind the rhubarb.' The handwriting was Mrs Pell's, and she swore on the church Bible she had never seen the cat in her life.
Michaelmas came and went. Then in late October a postcard arrived from a fishing harbour in Cornwall, showing a white cat on a windowsill with its ribbon bright new pink, and on the back, in careful capitals: STILL NOBODY'S. Wilf read it twice, then pinned it to the lost-property board, where it stayed for the rest of the year beside the bicycle pump.
