Hello Kitty face with red bow on a wrist

Forearm · Mixed · Photo

The tattoo shows the simple face of Hello Kitty, with dot eyes, three black whiskers on each side, a small yellow nose and a red bow above the head. The black lines are clean and even, and the flat red and yellow fills sit neatly inside them. The design is centred on the wrist and photographed against a plain, dark background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The miller's wife had not spoken to the cat for three days when the flour sacks began to walk. Mabry was small and white, with a red bow knotted above her ears that her mistress had tied on the day she was weaned, and she had never once in her life been seen to hurry. So when the sacks crossed the yard in a line, she sat on the well-kerb, washed one paw and waited, the way cats do when they already know the answer.

Behind the sacks came the reeve of Ostry Vale, a thin man who owed the mill forty measures of barley. He had brought the sacks to pay it in grain that was not grain, only chalk dusted white to look like flour, and he thought the cat was a fool. Three whiskers each side, the miller's wife liked to say, and Mabry could tell a lie from a loaf by smell alone. The reeve laughed and kicked at the nearest sack.

The sack split. Chalk ran across the cobbles in a grey tongue, and the reeve stood in it up to his ankles, and for the first time that season he looked at the cat instead of past her. Mabry blinked slowly, the way she did at mice that had made a poor choice. Then she rose, shook out her bow and walked to the mill door, where the miller's wife was already holding it open with a face like a shut shutter.

The reeve paid the barley that evening, all forty measures, and the next morning the miller's wife set a saucer of cream on the step. By noon the saucer was empty and the cream was gone, and Mabry lay asleep in the flour bin, white on white, with only the red bow showing like a coal left on a cold hearth.
