Fine line black tattoo of an arrow passing through an infinity symbol on the inner wrist.

Infinity symbol and arrow on a wrist

Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A single arrow runs diagonally through a looped infinity symbol drawn in thin black outline. The arrowhead at the upper right has hatched lines inside its fletching, while the tip at the lower left is an open outline. The ink is solid black on pale skin, with a plain background and even lighting.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Nell had counted the seats twice before the band struck up, and there were still only nineteen people under the canvas in Ludlow. Her father stood at the mark with the bow lifted, the wire loop he had bent himself hanging from the centre pole. It was an eight lying on its side, a figure that never ended, and he had not missed it in thirty years.

The trick was simple to describe and cruel to do. The arrow had to pass through both loops at the place where the wire crossed, and it had to leave the string clean, or the wire would ring like a cheap bell and the whole tent would hear the tin in it. Her father drew. Somebody coughed at the back. Nell watched the fletching, three feathers dyed the colour of old brass, and held her breath the way she had done since she was small enough to sit on the drum case.

The arrow went true. It slid through the crossing and out the far side, and the wire gave its one clear note. Nobody clapped loudly, but a boy in the front row stood up and shouted at the arrow as if it might come back to him, and that was enough for her father to bow low, the way he had in the big tops before the crowds stopped coming.

Afterwards he sat on the trailer step with the bow across his knees and turned the wire over in his hands. 'Same as always,' he said. Nell sat down beside him and tipped the coins from her apron onto the boards. 'Same as always,' she agreed, and they both looked up at the wire eight hung dark against the canvas, the kind of shape you could run round forever if only the money lasted another season.
