Infinity symbol lettering sketches
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
Several hand-drawn infinity symbols sit across a sheet of paper, each with a word or phrase written along the loop, including love, faith, peace, hope, young, infinity and live the life you love. A small heart with an infinity knot appears in the centre, and a black Pitt artist pen lies across the top right corner. The linework is thin and uniform in black ink, with no shading or colour, and the sketches are spaced loosely across the page.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Ruth had worked the Varra crossing booth for nineteen years, and the only thing she trusted more than the stamp was the black pen in her breast pocket. Her sister had given it to her one Christmas, and she used it to sign the ledger and, when the queue thinned after midnight, to draw loops in the margins. Her sister said they looked like the number eight lying on its side. Ruth said that was the point: a road that goes out and comes back without ever arriving anywhere.

Tonight a lorry driver named Gerrit Oakes leaned on the sill while the barrier lifted and the wipers beat their slow rhythm. He asked why she kept drawing the same shape. She told him she was still deciding what should go inside it. Faith sat on one bend, hope on the other, and the leftover curves wanted something small and young. She wrote the words on the back of a spare customs form while his papers cooled under the lamp, and he watched the pen move as if it were a magic trick.
His daughter was asleep in the cab with her forehead against the glass. When Gerrit mentioned she had been asking for a word of her own, Ruth wrote live the life you love in one long curl that ran back into itself, so the phrase had no visible start or finish. She handed the form through the window with his stamped permit tucked inside. He read it, grinned, and said his wife had the same words on her wrist, then drove on towards the lights of the far town.
Ruth sat alone in the booth with the pen capped in her hand. She looked at the drawing she had made without thinking and realised she had never once drawn the end of the line.
