Kawaii taco and burrito in a heart

Forearm · Colour · Photo

The tattoo shows a cartoon taco and a burrito, each with a simple smiling face with black eyes and blush marks, overlapping inside a large pink heart dotted with purple hearts. The bold black outlines and smooth colour fills give it a flat, cartoon look. The design is centred on pale skin against a white background, with a black item visible at the lower left edge.

On the steel bench sat two rounds of dough I had rolled out the night before and forgotten to cover. One was golden and neat, folded over a pinch of beef and a scatter of coriander, all modest shoulders. The other was a fat, lazy cylinder that had been stuffed with rice and beans until it could barely close its own seam. Dani said they looked like a pair who'd been packed into the same lunchbox by accident. I told him that was no way to talk about food that had never done him any harm.

We sold them at the hatch before the lorry drivers came in, and by six the corner was full of steam and bad jokes. The taco got a seat by the window. The burrito got a seat next to the taco, because I had decided it would, and neither of them complained. When the last customer left with a paper bag warm against his chest, Dani wiped the bench, looked at the empty space where the two of them had been, and said nothing at all. For once, I let him have the last word.
