Love script with heart on a finger
Lettering · Hand · Black and grey · Photo
A photograph of a hand resting on a white surface, showing a black script word reading Love followed by three dots and a small heart on the side of one finger. The lettering has smooth, even linework with a flowing hand-written feel, and the design is shown in black ink only. The close framing keeps the tattoo as the clear focus, with soft, even lighting.

The lift in Carrow House has been dead since Tuesday, so you climb the stairs with the shopping cutting into your fingers, counting landings the way your nan counted rosary beads. On the fourth floor someone has taped a note to the door of 4C in blue biro. Gone to Ilkley, back Sunday, love... and then nothing. Three dots trail off the page, and beside them a small heart, drawn carefully, as if the writer had stopped to decide how the sentence should end and then thought better of deciding.

You know that hand. Mr Anand writes the bin rota in the same careful capitals and signs it with a flourish that has never once been explained. For eleven years he has left you notes about the recycling and the leak above your bathroom, and never once has he left one that trailed off. You stand there longer than the stairwell light allows. It clicks off on its timer, and you stamp the switch with the side of your foot until it comes back on.
Sunday arrives grey and damp. You water his cactus on the windowsill because nobody else will, and you sort his post into a neat pile the way he likes it, bills on the bottom, catalogues on top. The lift is working again by Friday, a little sheepish, with a new sticker that says Fixed. Nobody mentions Ilkley. You do not ask.
On Monday you take a pen from your coat pocket and stand outside his door. You do not knock. You only crouch and write, in your own untidy hand, a single word after his three dots, and a heart beside it. Then the light clicks off again, and you are left kneeling in the dark, finishing a sentence that was never yours to finish.
