Love script with heart on the wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A hand is raised palm-down toward the top left of the frame, showing the inner wrist. The tattoo is the word Love in a flowing black script, with its swash trailing into a solid black heart at the upper right. The linework is fine and even, with no shading or colour, and the design sits centrally on the wrist against a dark, softly lit background.

Now sit still, and don't go looking at the clock, because Alf Pender never hurried a word in his life and I won't start for you. You want to know about the Love on the bakery window? That was Alf's work. Nineteen fifty-three, the year of the coronation, when every shop in Thornbury Cross had to have something red and gold in its glass or be thought mean. Alf had the sign-writer's pots and a set of sable brushes, and a wrist as steady as the church clock.

Mrs Halloran wanted BREAD and CAKES and a painted crown. Alf said he'd do one word and nothing else. He wanted it flowing, with a tail on it that wandered off the glass as if it had somewhere better to be. She called it foolishness. He told her a word ought to have a bit of wander in it, or it sat there dead as a pressed flower.
Then came the heart. Peggy Halloran, her daughter, stood at the counter that Friday with flour on her cardigan, and Alf let the last stroke of the swash run up and finish in a heart, solid as a coal. Peggy left for Leeds the Monday after with a fellow from the railway and never once came back to look at the window.
The bakery's still there, and so is the word, though the paint has gone the colour of weak tea. Alf used to say the heart was the only honest thing he ever put on glass, because it was the one bit he couldn't make come out straight, and so he never tried. Mind the step on your way out, love.
