Matching Mickey and Minnie quote tattoos

Fine line · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

Two forearms or wrists show matching tattoos, each pairing a Mouse head outline with script lettering that reads across both arms. The upper arm has a Mickey Mouse head and the words "Every day for the", while the lower arm has a Minnie Mouse head with a small pink bow and "rest of our lives". The linework is thin and mostly black, with the pink bow as the only colour, and the close-up composition is shot against a dark surface.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The sweet peas had leaned over the fence again, so Ivy and I stood in the dew with a ball of garden twine between us, tying them back the way we had every spring since the new houses went up on Hollin Lane. She knotted fast and I knotted slow, and she teased me for it, saying my bows looked like a pair of ears that had given up.

Her husband Len had built the trellis from two old cricket bat handles and a length of chicken wire, and he painted the top rail green the summer before he died. Nobody on the lane could say the word ears without Ivy's mouth going soft at one corner. When the seed merchant in Harrogate sent us a bag of Painted Lady peas by mistake, she laughed until she had to sit on the upturned bucket, then insisted they were a sign and gave me half.

That evening she came round with two brown paper packets. On mine she had written in her careful schoolteacher hand, "Every day for the," and on hers the same words had been crossed out and replaced with "rest of our lives." She had pinned a scrap of pink ribbon through the corner of each, the way she used to tie up Len's letters. "You keep the start," she said, "I'll keep the end, and we'll see who gets the better row."

We planted them that Sunday, one row either side of the trellis, pressing each seed into the warm soil with our thumbs. When the first flower opened in June, pale as a scrap of paper, I tied my ribbon to the wire and left the rest of the row to the wind.
