Matching outline figure tattoos on two wrists
Fine line · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
Two arms are shown with matching tattoos, each a black outline of a small crouched figure with red and blue curling flourishes beneath it. The linework is thin and even, with small touches of colour in the swirls and no solid shading. The tattoos sit close to the wrist and are framed against plain skin with a dark background.

Dear Tom, the Bramley trees at Hollins Farm are so heavy this year that Mr Pryce says we'll be picking until the first frost, if the wasps leave us any. I've been up the ladder since six, and every time I reach for a fruit I think of the sketch you pinned above the sink, the little crouched hound with its nose down, as if it's listening for something in the grass.

We had it done on the Saturday before you left, do you remember? The man in the back room of the Shuttle Street shop grumbled that we'd brought a drawing torn from a school jotter, but he traced it anyway and let us choose the ink. You picked blue for the rain and I picked red for the apples, and he swept the flourishes underneath like wind going through the rows. When we hold our hands out over the crates, the two of them match like a pair of mirrors.
Yesterday a pickers' boy from Hereford came off the wall and split his palm open on a nail. I held a tea towel to it while Mrs Pryce ran for the iodine, and I kept looking at the little hound inked on my own skin, thinking how odd it is that the one thing I can still see from here is the bit of you I carry about.
Send a postcard from wherever the boat has got to. I'll keep the bottom crate stacked for you, the one with the bent corner.
Love, Nell
