Matching script word and star wrist tattoos
Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
Two wrists are shown side by side, each with the same black handwritten lettering reading mfeo and a small blue asterisk-like star below it. The linework is thin and fairly even, with the black script clearly dominant and the blue marks adding a small amount of colour. The photograph is taken at close range against a blue railing, with both wrists angled toward the camera and a pink, blue and black wristband on one arm.

By the time the fog swallowed the breakwater light, Teodora had already burned two trays of bacon and was blaming the extractor fan, which had been broken since Easter. You took the spatula off her without a word and turned the hob down to a murmur. The ferry lurched, a stack of mugs slid across the steel, and somewhere below the car deck a dog started barking that nobody had booked.

You know the rule about the chalkboard by the hatch. Crew scribble their orders there, and every shift someone adds the same stubborn word, mfeo, with a little blue star beside it, as if it were a password nobody had bothered to tell you. Teodora swears it is her late uncle's name read backwards. Dev says it was a bet lost in Lisbon in 1998. Nobody has ever wiped it off, and the star has been redrawn so often the chalk has worn a pale groove into the slate.
At half two the tannoy crackled that the crossing would run late, and you carried two flasks out onto the wet deck to find Ruth leaning on the rail, shaking water off her hood. She took the tea without looking at it. 'Fog like this makes people honest,' she said. 'Half of them will tell you what that word means if you buy them a biscuit.' You told her you had no biscuits, only rolls.
Back in the galley you poured the last of the tea, watched the chalk star catch the strip light, and wrote the night's final order beneath it: two extra rolls, hot, for whoever comes off the dark water hungry.
