Metallic flash sheet with dreamcatchers and arrows
Geometric · Mixed · Flash
The sheet shows a set of tattoo designs printed in metallic gold and silver foil on a white background. The main motifs are a pair of wings, two dreamcatchers with feather tassels, arrows, triangles, chevrons and flower-like bands, with a patterned strip down each side. The designs are outlined in clean, even lines with simple fill, and they are arranged in a balanced grid with the wings at the centre top.

The bell-ringer of Saint Oda's had kept the bell rope for forty winters, and when the rope frayed at the top, the abbot sent word down the valley for a weaver. No weaver came. Instead a girl walked up the track with a bundle of gold thread and a pair of wings cut from copper leaf, and she said her grandmother had told her the bell would not ring true until it was bound with something that could fly.

The monks were doubtful. They gave her a cell beside the bakehouse and a stool by the window, and she worked there for nine days. On the tenth she came out with the rope bound in a spiral of gold, each turn set with tiny arrowheads pointing upward, and at the top, where the frayed fibres had been, she had worked two wings that opened like a pair of hands. The brothers ran their fingers over the feathers and found that every quill had been cut by hand, each one a little different from the next.
When the bell was rung that evening, the sound went out over the valley and came back doubled from the far ridge, and the old ringer, who had been half deaf since spring, swore he heard it come back a third time. The girl was gone by morning. On the stool she had left a small square of silver foil with two dreamcatchers pressed into it, their tassels hanging low, and a single line of dots running across the bottom like a path. The abbot kept it on the sill of the bell tower, and nobody ever learned whose hand had made it.
