Pink flower sprig on an ankle
Botanical · Ankle · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows two pink five-petalled flowers on a slender stem, with a small third bud near the lower end. The petals have soft, layered shading that gives a watercolour-like finish, and the stem is drawn in a fine, pale line. The design sits on the side of the ankle against plain light skin, with a dark background and white sock or shoe in the frame.

Sit yourself down, the kettle's only just gone off. You'll want to hear about the Pritchard sisters and the pink geranium that wouldn't die, because nobody in Maddox Cross has ever got that story right in the Crown.

Ada Pritchard grew it on the sill of the post office back in fifty-three, a stem no thicker than a knitting needle, and every morning she'd turn the pot so the two open blooms faced the lane. Her sister Nell had gone off to Bristol to nurse, and she wrote every second Thursday, but never once mentioned the weather or the price of coal. Only the flowers. Two open, and one shut tight down near the base, like a thing she was keeping back.
Ada read the letters out at the counter for anyone who cared to listen, and folk did care, because Nell's handwriting was so small you needed the window light to make it out. By the autumn that closed bud still hadn't opened, and Ada began to fret it would drop off before it ever bloomed.
Then one Thursday there was no letter. Ada stood the pot in the window and waited, and in the night the third bud split open, pale pink against the glass, as if it had only been waiting for someone to stop watching it. Next morning a van pulled up outside with Nell in the passenger seat, hat in her lap, and not a word needed saying.
