Realistic black and grey spider tattoo
Realism · Black and grey · Photo
A large spider is shown from above with its legs spread outward in a symmetrical pose. The body and legs are rendered with dark solid ink, fine highlights along the leg segments and soft grey shading that gives the design depth and a lifelike, raised appearance. The spider sits centrally in the frame against plain skin, with no other colour or background detail.

Dorrie had the net spread across the quay like a grey sheet, and she was on her knees working the mesh with a wooden needle when the thing came out from under the bollard. It was black and long-legged and in no hurry. Her brother Alec swore and reached for a boot, but she put her hand flat on the stones and let it cross her fingers. It paused at the knot she had just tied, as if checking her work.

The Rosalind had been out since four, and the crew were still hosing salt off the decks. Dorrie had mended nets for the fleet since she was fourteen, and she knew that a spider on a net meant a patch of the weft was going soft, or had already gone. She followed its path along the twine, counting the places where the mesh had slackened. Three holes, and a long cut where the otter board had caught it in March.
When the Rosalind came alongside at six, the skipper, a man called Pender with forearms like coiled rope, climbed onto the quay and asked why the starboard panel wasn't finished. She showed him the spider's line instead, the knots she had tied as it walked. He studied the mesh for a long time, then the black creature picking its way over the stones.
"Leave it be," he said at last. "Whatever's eating the holes is paying its way."
Dorrie picked up the needle again and tied the last knot beside the spider's track, leaving a gap just wide enough for it to cross.
