Script quote lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The design is a handwritten script quote laid out over several lines, with the attribution at the bottom. The linework is solid black with flowing connecting strokes and decorative flourishes on the capital letters and some descenders. It is a plain black-on-white drawing with no shading or colour.

The fireplace is the worst of it, cracked clean across like a dropped plate. I have filled the crack with lime and set a border of lilac vines round the mantel, and the bird on the lintel has a yellow breast now, the colour of the one that used to come to the kitchen sill when Father was alive. Mrs Hartigan stood in the doorway this morning with her hand at her collar and said nothing for a full minute. Then she asked whether I could do the stairwell as well.
I have written the words along the top of the wall above the hearth, in the good hand I learned from the vicar, because she made me promise the room would not look like a cellar when she is finished with it. They are what she told me my first week, when I was crying in the scullery over the price of a brush. Everything round me will be made lovely, she said, and that will be my living. I took it for a rich woman's nonsense. I do not think so now.
Come at Michaelmas and see it. Bring your spectacles, for the vines are small and I am proud of them.
