Stitch with flowers and Ohana lettering
Neo-trad · Ribs · Colour · Photo
A colour tattoo of the cartoon character Stitch sits in the centre, shown from the side with large eyes and a pink-lined ear, surrounded by a yellow and red hibiscus and red plumeria flowers on a green wash. The word Ohana is written in looping script above the character, with means and Family in black script below. Bold outlines, smooth shading and bright colour fill the design, which is placed across the torso.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The creature came up the black sand below Tūtū Malia's gate the week the plumeria dropped its pale flowers into the gutters. It had one enormous eye, a wet blue back, and an ear that flopped over like a page someone had folded to keep their place. Malia found it sitting among her hibiscus, pulling off petals one at a time and sniffing each before letting it fall.

Her grandson Kekoa wanted to ring the council. Malia wanted to know where it had been sleeping. Nobody on the island could say what it was, though it broke three of her bowls the first night, ate a whole tray of guava bread, and tried to drag the washing line down to the sea. Each time someone shouted, it dropped its head, went small, and looked up with that huge wet eye until they felt they had kicked a dog.
By the first full moon it was sleeping under the porch, wedged between Kekoa's surfboard and the broken cooler. Malia said the word ohana over the rafters when she set the plates out, the way her own mother had, and the creature lifted its head as if someone had called its name from the far end of the house. She never did learn where it came from. She only noticed that the table had grown one plate longer, and nobody mentioned it.
