Stylised cat and branch on a forearm
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A stylised cat face with folded ears and large eyes sits above a black branch with small leaves. The cat is built from flat, angular blocks of purple, grey, yellow and pink with soft blended edges. The left close-up shows the tattoo filling the upper forearm, and the right photo shows the same piece on a person's arm in a grey top.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Mrs Ardle had given up calling the cat down by the third week of March, because he had made it plain that the willow was his and the village could fetch its own washing. He was a violet-grey creature with ears folded flat like a letter someone had started to fold and thought better of, and he sat in the crook of the old tree at the edge of Hollin Wood, where the path gave out into nettles.

Tomas from the post van was the first to notice that the cat had been chewing the catkins. Not eating them, exactly. He nipped off the silver tufts and spat them onto the moss in neat little rows, as if he were writing something nobody had taught him to read. Tomas left a tin of sardines on the stile. By Friday the tin was empty and the cat was still up there, watching the lane with eyes like two wet pebbles.
One evening in April the rain came sideways off the hills and the lane flooded. Mrs Ardle, who had not spoken to the postman since the business with the parcel, stood at the stile in her wellingtons and called up into the branches. Nothing. Then the cat stretched, unhurried, and stepped down onto her shoulder without a single claw out. She carried him home under her coat, and he purred against her collarbone the whole way, which Tomas heard about from three different people before the week was out.
The willow leafed the next morning, pale green and then darker, and the bare branch he had sat on was already sprouting a second bud. Mrs Ardle set a saucer of milk on the step facing the wood. Each morning after that the milk was gone and a single silver catkin lay beside the saucer, placed with the care of a letter sealed and left for the postman.
