Cartoon mouse and cat tattoos on feet
Other · Colour · Photo
The photo shows a cartoon blue mouse holding a chainsaw and a grey cat holding a cleaver, repeated across four panels of feet. The tattoos use solid flat colour with dark outlines and simple shading on the fills. The panels are arranged in a grid against a dark background, with the same designs shown from slightly different angles.

Dear Ruth,

You will not believe what Mr Pengelly's mouse did on Tuesday. The blue one, the one with the chainsaw he swears he found in a skip behind the lifeboat station, went through the whole fish market at a run, tail up, shrieking like a kettle. The grey tom was two steps behind him with the cleaver from the chandlery, and between them they took out a crate of mackerel, the bunting over the chip shop, and most of Mrs Dunstable's hanging baskets.
Nobody can stop them. Pengelly tried a broom. The mouse used it to sweep the quay for him, then chased the tom up the mast of the Morwenna. The harbourmaster tried a bucket of water and the cat came out of it grinning, with a fresh edge on the blade. It is the most cheerful mayhem I have ever seen, and the gulls have gone quiet about it, which is the only sign anyone is frightened.
Then on Friday the tide came in early and took the slipway out from under them both. They ended up in the same bobbing lobster crate, glaring and dripping, the saw still turning over at half speed and the cleaver stuck in the rim. Neither would let go. A gull landed between them and ate the crab bait in one go. The mouse looked at the cat. The cat looked at the mouse. For the first time in two summers, neither moved to strike.
I'll write again when the boats are back in. Love to Dad.
