Cartoon pink train with I choo-choo-choose you

Traditional · Calf · Colour · Photo

A smiling pink cartoon locomotive pulls a pink carriage with a small heart in its window, and a speech cloud above it reads I CHOO-CHOO-CHOOSE YOU in red letters. Small red hearts float between the cloud and the train. Bold black outlines, flat fills in pink, yellow and red, and a white highlight on the cloud give it a classic cartoon look against pale skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Rain had been drumming on the awnings since dawn, and Ada Pike had been telling the same story to anyone who would stand still at the fish stall. 'Listen,' she said, wiping her hands on her apron. 'There was a pink engine called Bertie Blush who ran the branch line out past the gasworks, and he was hopelessly soft on the carriage behind him.'

Her name was Marjorie, and she had a little red heart painted in her window so everybody on the platform knew where her feelings were kept. Bertie tried everything. He polished his brass until the porters squinted. He blew his whistle so loud that a flock of starlings dropped out of the sky over the sidings. He even tied a bunch of violets to his smokestack, which blew off in the first gust. Marjorie only ever said, 'Bertie, you're pulling the wrong way.'

One wet Tuesday he gave up on speeches. He puffed up beside her in the goods yard, his face as red as a postbox, and said the only thing he could think of, which was the thing he'd been saying all along, one chuff at a time. 'I choo-choo-choose you.' The words came out in a cloud of steam, hung above the rails and would not blow away.

Marjorie looked at the cloud for a long while. Then she gave a small toot. 'Well, you'll have to keep saying it,' she said, 'or the steam will clear.' Ada tapped the counter with her knife. 'And that's why there's always a few hearts bobbing about the funnel on that line, even in the rain.' She looked up past the awning, where a handful of pink hearts were drifting over the car park, and went back to gutting her herring.
