Winnie the Pooh characters in a row on forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows four Winnie the Pooh characters drawn side by side in a loose outline: Eeyore, Pooh, Piglet and Tigger. The linework is thin and mostly unshaded, with small areas of solid black filling parts of the figures. The ink is black only, set on pale skin, with the figures spaced evenly along the arm.

Dear Tom, The ferry didn't run on Tuesday, so I spent the afternoon sorting the shed with Mr Ross. The gale had lifted the tarpaulin and rain got into the crate where you left your old things. Most of it has gone to mush, but the four little figures came through, still standing in a row the way you always insisted, the donkey at one end and the tiger at the other.

I set them on the sill of the post room, where the light comes in off the water. Eeyore looks as glum as ever, his tail hanging off the edge like a bell rope. Pooh sits with his hand in a honey pot that isn't there anymore, and Piglet is doing his best to hide behind him. Tigger is bouncing even on his tin base. Ross says a collector on the mainland would pay good money for them, and I told him to mind his own business.
What I keep thinking about is the day you lined them up along the harbour wall and made me call the register like a schoolmistress. You said nobody got left behind in a line like that. I didn't have the heart to tell you the wind had taken your kite that morning and you'd been crying into your sleeve all the way up the hill.
I've put them back in the crate with the lid propped open so the damp can get out. The ferry is due Thursday, if the sea behaves. Come home and call the register yourself. Love, Auntie Jean.
