Gold and silver geometric armband designs
Geometric · Colour · Flash
A flash sheet of six horizontal bands of metallic gold and silver geometric motifs on a white background. The designs include leaf chains, interlocking loops, rows of triangles, outlined diamonds, chevron borders and a textured foil pattern, all drawn with clean, even outlines. Gold dominates the sheet, with silver accents in the diamonds, triangles and chevrons.

Now, you want to know why Madame Orsolya sold the gold to a pawnbroker in Leeds, and I will tell you, but sit closer, my chest is older than this tent. The Ruggiero Brothers had nine foil bands apiece in those days, flat as wasp backs, cut from a sheet a printer in Rotterdam gave them for nothing. Chevrons for the wrists, diamonds up the forearms, little silver triangles pointing the way to the lion cage so nobody wandered off before the show.

The trouble came when the big top started to sag like an old horse. The town stopped paying for tickets and started paying for the pictures in the newspaper, and then the newspaper stopped printing us at all. Nell Ruggiero, who was nine and thought everything was a trick, counted the bands each night on the caravan step. Eighteen triangles, forty-two diamonds, three leaf chains that had gone brown at the edges where the lamp oil splashed. She said the leaves were tired of hanging on. Her father laughed, and then he stopped laughing, and then he went out in the snow and did not come back until dawn.
So Orsolya took the gold to Leeds on the back of the milk cart. She came home with enough coal for a winter and a wireless that only picked up the football. The silver she kept, because silver goes black in damp and nobody in a pawnshop wants a thing that will not shine. In the trunk now there is one sheet still uncut, gold leaves in a row like a fence no one has ever climbed. Nell keeps it folded under the lion's old blanket, and every spring she unfolds it on the step to see whether the sun has been kind to it.
